GoEngineer Pricing, SOLIDWORKS Maintenance Renewal Escalations & Multi-Seat Discount Audit

A SOLIDWORKS renewal quoted through GoEngineer should be checked line by line against typical 2025-2026 market ranges: $2,820-$3,480 for Standard, $3,456-$4,152 for Professional and $4,716-$5,496 for Premium per term seat per year. On a 20-seat Professional estate, the difference between an uncapped 9.5% yearly uplift and a written 3% cap is about $15,400 over three years, and that is before unused bundled add-ons or idle seats are removed.

01What a typical GoEngineer SOLIDWORKS renewal quote contains

GoEngineer is one of several regional value-added resellers (VARs) that sell Dassault Systemes SOLIDWORKS licenses, maintenance and services. Engineer Aid is independent and has no relationship with GoEngineer; this page is a buyer's checklist for any SOLIDWORKS renewal sold through a VAR, applied to the documents a GoEngineer customer usually receives.

A renewal package typically has four parts. First, the license lines: term subscriptions (you pay every year to keep using the software) or maintenance on perpetual licenses (you own the version, and maintenance buys updates and support). Second, the tier of each seat: Standard, Professional or Premium. Third, add-ons such as PDM, Simulation, Visualize, Electrical or 3DEXPERIENCE cloud roles. Fourth, services: training credits, implementation days or an enhanced support plan.

Buyers report that the most expensive mistakes are not in the headline seat price. They sit in three places: a percentage uplift applied to every line without a cap, add-ons that renewed automatically from a past promotion, and seats assigned to people who have left or rarely open the software. Ask for the quote as an itemized list with a seat count, unit price, term dates and serial number on each line. A single bundled total cannot be audited.

Before you read the quote, pull two things from your own systems: the list of active users from your license manager or SOLIDWORKS Admin Portal, and last year's invoice. The audit is a comparison of three numbers per line: what you paid, what you are quoted, and what the benchmark says.

02Line items to check on the renewal

Work through the quote in this order. Each row below gives the benchmark to compare against and the question to put in writing to your account manager. The benchmarks are typical 2025-2026 market ranges; your price will vary with seat count, region and timing, so treat a figure outside the range as a reason to ask, not as proof of an error.

03Red flags, written as questions

None of these is evidence of a problem by itself. Each is a point where buyers commonly find money, so each deserves a written answer.

  • Is the uplift capped? If the order form says prices are subject to the list price in effect at renewal, you have no cap. Ask for a fixed percentage ceiling for each year of a multi-year term.
  • Did an add-on renew because it was free last year? Promotional cloud roles or Visualize seats sometimes start at no charge and appear at full price on the next renewal. Ask which lines were promotional.
  • Are all serial numbers still in use? Ask for the activation date and last activation for each serial. Seats activated on machines that were retired are common.
  • Is the tier mix right? Premium seats carry roughly $1,300 a year over Professional at benchmark. Ask which users run Premium-only tools such as routing or the higher simulation features.
  • What happens if a perpetual seat lapses? Buyers report back-maintenance catch-up fees of $500 to $1,500 or more per seat, or a push to move to term licenses. Get the reinstatement rule in writing before deciding to drop maintenance.
  • Is the multi-seat discount the same as last year? A discount that silently drops from one renewal to the next is the same as an uplift.
  • Can services be separated? Training or support packages should be priced on their own line so you can decline them without affecting license pricing.

04Worked example: 20 Professional seats over three years

A firm has 20 SOLIDWORKS Professional term seats at the $3,800 benchmark, so year one costs 20 x $3,800 = $76,000.

Scenario A, uncapped 9.5% uplift. Year two is $76,000 x 1.095 = $83,220. Year three is $83,220 x 1.095 = $91,126. Three-year total: $76,000 + $83,220 + $91,126 = $250,346.

Scenario B, written 3% cap. Year two is $76,000 x 1.03 = $78,280. Year three is $78,280 x 1.03 = $80,628. Three-year total: $234,908.

The cap is worth $250,346 - $234,908 = $15,438, about 6.2% of the three-year spend.

Now add the seat review. License logs show 3 of the 20 seats have not been activated in 120 days. Removing them saves 3 x $3,800 = $11,400 in year one and, under the 3% cap, $11,742 and $12,094 in the next two years, for $35,236 over the term. Combined with the cap, the audit moves the three-year cost from $250,346 to $199,672, a reduction of $50,674 or 20.2%.

The arithmetic is simple. The hard part is having the activation data and the cap request ready more than 60 days before the term ends, while there is still time to compare a second written quote.

05Perpetual maintenance versus term: when switching makes sense

Many GoEngineer customers hold a mix of perpetual seats on maintenance and newer term seats. The renewal is a good moment to test whether each perpetual seat still earns its maintenance.

At benchmark, a Professional perpetual seat costs $5,490 upfront plus $1,595 a year in maintenance. A term seat costs $3,800 a year. Because the perpetual license is already paid for, the running comparison is $1,595 against $3,800: keeping maintenance is $2,205 a year cheaper per seat for as long as you need updates and support.

The decision changes for seats used by people who only open old files. A perpetual license keeps working on its last version even without maintenance. For a viewer-only user, dropping maintenance saves $1,595 a year, but ask first what reinstatement will cost if that user later needs a current release. If the reinstatement fee is $1,500 per seat and you expect to need it within one year, dropping maintenance saves almost nothing.

Write down which seats are on which model, their serial numbers and their maintenance end dates. Mixed estates often have staggered dates, which makes co-terming (aligning all end dates) worth asking for. Ask whether co-terming is prorated to the day or rounded up to the month.

06Step-by-step renewal audit checklist

  1. Day 90 before expiry: request an itemized renewal quote with serial numbers, tiers, unit prices and term dates.
  2. Day 85: export activation history and, for floating seats, peak concurrency from your license server logs.
  3. Day 80: list every user, their tier and their last activation. Flag seats idle for 90 days or more.
  4. Day 75: compare each unit price to last year's invoice and to the benchmark ranges above. Compute the uplift percentage per line.
  5. Day 70: mark every add-on and service line as keep, remove or question.
  6. Day 65: ask in writing for a multi-year cap, the multi-seat discount basis and the lapse rule for perpetual maintenance.
  7. Day 60: request a comparable written quote from a second SOLIDWORKS VAR so you have a reference price. See the VAR comparison for what to compare.
  8. Day 45: negotiate from the itemized gap list, not the total.
  9. Day 30: confirm the final order form matches what was agreed, including the cap wording, before signing.

Keep the logs, quotes and emails together. The same file answers next year's renewal and any license compliance question; the compliance letter guide explains why that inventory matters.

Questions buyers ask

How much does a SOLIDWORKS Professional seat cost through GoEngineer in 2026?

Engineer Aid does not publish any one reseller's price list. Typical 2025-2026 market ranges for a SOLIDWORKS Professional term seat run $3,456 to $4,152 per year, with $3,800 as a working benchmark. Compare your written quote line by line against that range and against last year's invoice.

What is a normal SOLIDWORKS renewal increase?

Buyers report observed escalations of 8% to 14% on renewals that were not benchmarked, with 9.5% a common figure. On 20 Professional seats, an uncapped 9.5% uplift costs about $15,400 more over three years than a 3% written cap.

Can I ask a VAR for a multi-year price cap on SOLIDWORKS?

You can ask, and the best time is 60 or more days before expiry. Request the cap as a fixed percentage ceiling for each renewal year, written into the order form rather than an email.

Is it cheaper to keep SOLIDWORKS perpetual maintenance or switch to term licenses?

At benchmark, keeping Professional maintenance costs about $1,595 a year against $3,800 for a term seat, so maintenance is usually cheaper on licenses you already own. Check the reinstatement fee before letting any seat lapse, since buyers report catch-up charges of $500 to $1,500 or more.

What documents should I gather before auditing a SOLIDWORKS renewal?

Collect last year's invoice, the itemized renewal quote with serial numbers, activation history per serial, and peak concurrency logs for any floating seats. With those four, every line can be checked against the benchmark and against actual use.
